Fuel Tank Cleaning – Day One

July 15, 2022 5:51 pm

After sitting for 17+ years the fuel had turned to varnish and needed to be removed. I thought this would be simple.

Of all the options I’d read about, I decided to start with the vinegar. I didn’t realize that shit was $20/gallon. The vinegar seemed to work well but I soon discovered the lining was peeling off so that added a whole new layer to the problem.

  • Removing the tank
  • Surprised to see anything liquid
  • Sending Unit
  • Sending Unit, discontinued seal
  • Soaking
  • Old cap and seals
  • Paint needs attention
  • After first soak/drain
  • Lining on petcock after vinegar
  • That went in clear
